Albuquirky Shapes (1994)
Albuquirky Shapes (1994)
The Special Shape Rodeo™. A day when colour and magic fill the air. A day when Albuquerque, the balloon capital of the world could truly be described as 'Albuquirky'.

English hot air balloon artist Mark Pacan's painting personifies the surrealism and fun of the Special Shape Rodeo™. While inanimate balloons such as the 'Cactus', 'Birthday Cake' and 'Telephone' take to the deep blue New Mexican sky, they are photographed, videod, waived to and pointed at by their animate friends who have taken on the characteristics of a special shape crowd.

Relive your special shape fantasy with Mark's superbly detailed painting.

Rodeo Glowdeo (1995)
Rodeo Glowdeo (1995)
It's a child's dream come to life. The two children, aroused from their slumbers by the roaring of burners look out of the 'window' to be greeted by their favourite special shaped balloons, who are ready to take them on a fantastic adventure into the star spangled sky. It's a feeling experienced by anyone who has attended the Special Shape Rodeo™ or the Night Glow.

Mark Pacan brings alive for all one of his own special dreams shaped by the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

The Albuquerque Box (1996)
The Albuquerque Box (1996)
Happy 25th birthday to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! And no birthday would be complete without a gift box, especially one containing such welcome guests as the special shape balloons. Out they rise to fly the Albuquerque 'box', the atmospheric phenomenon which has made this event celebrated worldwide. Many happy returns to Albuquerque!

Mark Pacan combines his skill, imagination and over 200 hours of painting time with the flavour of New Mexico to create the third in a series of posters that celebrate the Special Shape Rodeo.

Close Encounters of the Ninth Kind (1997)
Close Encounters of the Ninth Kind (1997)
As the Zia rises above the Sandia Mountains, a road runner is startled by two aliens seeking directions to their holiday destination. Likewise, the visitors are in turn astonished by the October phenomenon, known as the Special Shapes Rodeo. They are not alone, for all who visit New Mexico it is a close encounter that is out of this world.

Legal alien and artist Mark Pacan wanted to express through his painting that terrestrial and extra-terrestrial visitors to the land of enchantment are assured an amazing experience at the Special Shapes Rodeo.
Watch the Skies.

Vision (1998)
Vision (1998)
For centuries man has used the shamanic experience for journeying to other worlds. Now we have the fantastic crafts known as hot air balloons that can take our imagination far above the ground.

Mark Pacan uses his artistic skill and insight to bring us a vision of the 10th Special Shape Rodeo from a different perspective.
Like an eagle, let your imagination soar.

Illusion (1999)

The Millennium Banquet (2000)
The Millennium Banquet (2000)
Party party party! That's the theme worldwide for the year 2000 AD and the Special Shape Rodeo is the biggest party of them all! Where else would you find a hot dog over 100 feet long? Ravenous characters await the candles to be blown out by the most special of guests and the banquet will begin.

Using a paintbrush and an airbrush, Mark Pacan recreates the warm glow of a New Mexican dusk and a visual feast for our senses.

2001 ~ A Shapes Odyssey (2001)
2001 ~ A Shapes Odyssey (2001)
The odyssey to Albuquerque from places near and far has begun! Strange shapes make their way through space, guided by the Astrozebras. Their mission? To bring happiness to thousands of upturned faces in one of the most joyous spectacles on our blue and beautiful planet, the special shapes rodeo.

Using gouache, paintbrush and airbrush, Mark Pacan takes our imagination to another world in a way that only visitors to the special shapes rodeo can understand.
